What is a Local Area Agreement
Local Area Agreements (LAA) were introduced by central government in 2005. They are written agreements which set out how public, voluntary and private sector bodies within an area will work together to improve the quality of life for residents over a three year period.
The agreements are signed between central government and local government with local government responsible for bringing together local partners through the Local Strategic Partnership, i.e. Leicestershire Together. The agreement sets out the an area’s priorities, and how we will measure the achievement of those outcomes (e.g. reduce overall crime) and an explanation of how the outcomes are to be delivered (through services and projects).
Leicestershire’s Second LAA was signed in June 2008 to cover the period 2008 – 2011 and is the delivery plan for the wider Sustainable Community Strategy which covers a slightly longer period up to 2013.
LAA2 is made up of a set of 35 high level targets drawn from the National Indicator Set (NIS), 16 statutory education and early years targets prescribed by the Department for Children, Schools and Families and 10 locally determined targets.
