People in Leicestershire generally enjoy a good quality of life. The County does not experience the levels of deprivation experienced in some parts of the Country. Nevertheless, there are people and places where and who are more likely to have reduced life chances, poorer health, be unemployed or in low skilled jobs, live in a low income household and experience higher levels of crime and poor living environments.
We are prioritising children leaving care, people with mental health problems and older people with support needs.
Across the county, we also have identified 19 priority neighbourhoods where we seek to raise and meet aspirations of communities. (Ashby, Bagworth, Burbage St Catharine’s, Castle Donington, Charnwood South, Coalville, Thringstone and Whitwick, Earl Shilton and Barwell, Enderby, Greenhill, Hinckley, Ibstock, Loughborough East, Loughborough West, Market Harborough, Measham, Melton Mowbray,Moira, Mountsorrel, Wigston and South Wigston).
This is a theme that cuts across each and every one of the other themes in the Strategy and is key to tackling its priorities and achieving the targets in the LAA.
The delivery plans for securing these priorities for the vulnerable people and places of Leicestershire:
- How we getting looked after children in longer placements (NI63)
- How we are helping the vulnerable to maintain their independent living (NI142)
- How we are getting adults with learning disabilities into settled accommodation (NI145)
- How we are reducing reoffending rates among adults (NI18)
- How we are reducing reoffending rates among young people (NI19)
- How we are increasing the number of young people in employment, education or training (NI117)
- How we are giving carer's additional support (NI135)
