Youth Portal
Engaging young people
What’s a “cool and groovy” but effective medium for young people to get access to relevant information? It’s a Youth Portal.
The Youth Portal project was designed with feedback from the region’s young people. It is a prototype web structure that is geared towards putting key information (e.g. jobs, learning, citizenship) online and creating a place where transactions can be carried out for this group of people that have typically been difficult to engage.
How does a portal benefit young people?
- Allows young people to gain easy access to a full range of information in a usable and enjoyable way
- Promotes participation and interest in local politics and civic society
- Develops understanding of local authorities and the wider public sector
- Promotes take-up of e-government
- Allows for transactions to occur online
How does a portal benefit local authorities?
- Develops the ability to segment, understand and get input from this customer group
- Brings together complex information but presents it in an accessible way
- Brings fun and enjoyment into e-government through smart design
Next Steps
The YP project board is looking for support from other groups to help maintain the site, provide content and continue consultations with young people across the region.
