MAGNet- an online mapping tool

MAGNet is an interactive geographical information system (GIS) also known as an online mapping tool.  It is a tool that has been integrated into Infolinx, an information resource, and Leicestershirevillages.com, the village based websites for the region.  Complicated information can be viewed in a much simpler map-based format with MAGNet.  The following are examples of questions that can be answered by viewing MAGNet generated maps.

  • Where is my closest GP surgery?
  • What leisure centres are in my authority?
  • Are there any primary schools near my home?
  • What is the opening time of my local Internet access point?

Customer Driven Results- Viewing information you want, how you want it

Users can input information in one of two ways: point and click or enter a postcode.  Along with this, users can layer a variety of information onto one map e.g. schools and leisure centres.  

Making MAGNet Better

Results from a recently conducted usability study will be incorporated into the further development of this project.
