Leicestershire E-Government Partnership
The nine local authorities in Leicestershire are working to deliver e-government together. The work has been challenging but rewarding, and we are now seeing the fruits of our joint efforts. By working together we are:
- Saving money
- Securing significant funding from the ODPM (£1.1M to date)
- Sharing lessons and experiences
- Working cross-boundary to deliver more convenient and seamless services for citizens, businesses and tourists
Having explored different options, the partnership has focused on two strategic goals:
- To provide up-to-date information on public services in a convenient and user-friendly way
- To make it easier for the customer to undertake transactions with local authorities collectively
There are eight projects that the partnership is working on to deliver these two aims.
To deliver strategic goal 1:
- Community Portals to deliver a town level portal and in the process produce a free to use website creation tool for public, voluntary and community groups
- Leicestershire CareOnLine to bring together all information for vulnerable adults and their carers
- Youth Portal to bring together all relevant information for young people, in line with the Leicestershire LSP strategic objective
- Infolinx to provide community information and up to date links from different data sources to all our portals and websites
- MAGNet so people can view information on a map
To deliver strategic goal 2:
- Destination Management System to enable potential tourists to see in one place where they might stay and be able to book there and then
- Online Planning so residents can submit planning applications, make submissions and view existing applications online
- Reciprocal Service Delivery to enable the customer wherever he or she is, to undertake transactions with the correct authority e.g. reporting a street light fault
- Citizens: Much greater convenience when interacting with various local authorities
- Local communities: More vibrant and cohesive as people can find out what’s on and available in their area far more easily
- Vulnerable adults: Less time looking for information, reduced isolation
- Young people: Information and advice through a non-threatening medium
- Social and care services: Reduced pressure on over-stretched staff
- Local tourism: More people visiting and booking accommodation and events
